Healthy Planet Healthy People!

What does a “green hospital” look like?

“Climate change is the greatest challenge to global health in the 21st century.” ~ The Lancet, 2015

Who we are

Health for Future is a global movement of people from all health professions who are committed to the concept of planetary health.
Our commitment is based on the scientific understanding that climate change poses a major risk to human health. As members of the health sector, we therefore feel a special responsibility toward society to demand climate action and to actively promote it ourselves.

What we want

  • Raise awareness among healthcare professionals, the public, and policymakers about the health consequences of the climate crisis.
  • Highlight the health benefits of a sustainable lifestyle (so-called “co-benefits,” e.g., a more plant-based diet, non-motorized physical activity).
  • Develop plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the health sector (“Green Hospitals”).
  • Integrate planetary health content into research and teaching at medical schools.

In Basel

We’ve focused so far on integrating this topic more into our studies. We’ve also organized a number of events, such as those held during Sustainability Week and SMSC. Our most recent club meetings included a barbecue in the woods, a movie night featuring “Kiss the Ground,” and making seed balls. We’re always open to your ideas. :)
